Catastrophic DUI Crash in Miramar: Two Killed, Two Arrested
SANTA ANA, CA (March 18, 2024) — A DUI-related crash shook the community of Miramar early Saturday morning, claiming the lives of two individuals and resulting in the arrest of two drivers.
The incident unfolded around 2:45 a.m. on Interstate 15, just north of Miramar Way, as a Honda Civic, operated by 25-year-old Esteban Coronado from Escondido, collided with the rear of a Toyota 4-Runner. Subsequently, a Chevrolet Colorado, driven by 22-year-old Joseph Michael Martin from Sun City, crashed into the Honda.
Tragically, two passengers in the Honda lost their lives at the scene of the accident. Following investigations, authorities determined that both Coronado and Martin were under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. They were promptly apprehended and booked into San Diego County Jail.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) closed northbound lanes of I-15 for approximately three and a half hours to conduct a thorough investigation. Traffic was redirected to the northbound High Occupancy Vehicle lanes during this time.
The names of the deceased victims are being withheld until their next of kin are notified by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
