Vehicle Collides with Horse Rider in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 18, 2024) — A collision between a vehicle and a horse rider resulted in a fatality in southeast Bakersfield.
Authorities from the Bakersfield Police Department were dispatched to Alto Place and South Sterling Road following reports of a fatal traffic incident on March 16.
At approximately 11:35 p.m., officers arrived to find a man and a horse critically injured on the roadway. Despite efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene, and the horse had to be euthanized. The Kern County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased at a later time.
The vehicle vs horse rider accident occurred when a pickup truck traveling in the 1300 block of South Sterling Road struck the man on horseback, who was also traveling southbound. The driver of the truck remained present and cooperated with law enforcement.
