Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle on South Union Avenue

BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 26, 2024) — A man succumbed to his injuries at a Bakersfield hospital after being struck by a vehicle on South Union Avenue Saturday night. The incident happened around 8:40 p.m. at the intersection of South Union Avenue and Panama Lane, according to police.
The man, who sustained major injuries, was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Sunday. The Kern County Coroner’s Office will release his identity at a later time.
Police reported that a white Honda SUV was traveling southbound on South Union Avenue and entered the intersection on a green light when the pedestrian, walking westbound near the intersection, was struck. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Authorities have ruled out speed and impairment as factors in the South Union Avenue pedestrian accident.
