Teens Rushed to the Hospital After Consuming Cannabis Edibles on Field Trip

LA BREA, CA (May 15, 2024) — Several teenage students became ill after consuming what appeared to be cannabis edibles during a field trip to the La Brea Tar Pits on Tuesday.
Around 1 p.m., Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the museum and research site in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood. Eight students, both male and female, were found acutely ill by an on-site security officer, according to the Fire Department.
Paramedics determined that each student had an altered level of consciousness after ingesting the cannabis edibles. Aerial footage showed several students being placed on gurneys and loaded into ambulances.
The Fire Department reported that the students were in fair condition but were taken to area hospitals for further assessment. Officials did not disclose which school organized the field trip that resulted in the La Brea cannabis accident.
