“9-1-1” Crew Member Dies in Crash After 14-Hour Shift

LOS ANGELES, CA (May 14, 2024) — Rico Priem, a crew member on the Fox procedural “9-1-1,” died early Saturday morning in a car accident following a 14-hour overnight shift.
The grip and IATSE Local 80 member was involved in the crash after working on a location shoot in Pomona from Friday night through Saturday morning, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed.
Statements from IATSE and the show’s studio, 20th Television, about the 911 crew member accident were released Monday after crew members shared the news on social media over the weekend.
“We are fully committed to the safety and well-being of all our members and express our heartfelt condolences to the member’s family,” IATSE stated. “Workers have a reasonable expectation that they can get to work and come home safely. No one should be put in unsafe circumstances while trying to earn a living.”
IATSE international president Matthew Loeb expressed the union’s shock and sadness, emphasizing their support for Priem’s family and colleagues. “Safety in all aspects of the work our members do is our highest priority, and we will assist in any investigation in any way that we can,” Loeb said.
