Catastrophic Crash Claims Life of Pomona Woman, Teen Arrested

POMONA, CA (May 13, 2024) — A tragic high-speed rollover crash near McFarland has resulted in the death of a Pomona woman and the arrest of a 17-year-old driver. The incident occurred on the evening of May 11 near Sherwood Avenue and northbound Highway 99.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the teen was driving an Infinity sedan northbound when he veered onto the right shoulder and off the roadway. The vehicle struck a raised dirt rock embankment and overturned multiple times, finally coming to a rest on its roof. The driver sustained major injuries and was taken to Kern Medical for treatment.
The passenger, 21-year-old Lizae Jiselle Franco, was ejected from the car during the crash. She was rushed to Adventist Health Delano, where she was later pronounced dead.
The teen driver has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence, and operating a vehicle without a valid California driver’s license. He is currently held at Kern County Juvenile Hall.
