OILDALE, CA (May 28, 2024) — A Bakersfield man was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Oildale on Saturday night.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to North Chester Avenue, south of McCord Avenue, just after 9 p.m. following reports of a crash involving a bicycle and a vehicle.
Officials said the 63-year-old bicyclist, who had no lights on his bike, was traveling westbound across North Chester Avenue and crossed directly into the path of a Chevrolet.
The driver of the Chevrolet was unable to avoid the bicyclist, striking him in the fast lane. The bicyclist was taken to Kern Medical, where he died on Sunday. The coroner’s office will soon release the name of the deceased.
