Suspect Crashes Into South LA Apartment Building After High-Speed Chase
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (May 25, 2024) — A brief police pursuit ended in a violent crash early Saturday morning when a suspect slammed into an apartment building in South Los Angeles.
The chase began around 1:45 a.m. after officers attempted to stop the suspect for an alleged vehicle code violation, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The pursuit ended abruptly when the suspect’s vehicle crashed into the first floor of a building at 206 E. 23rd Street, causing the car to burst into flames.
The fire quickly spread to the building, prompting a rapid response from Los Angeles Fire Department crews who extinguished the flames in just over 20 minutes. Two of the four occupants were transported to the hospital and are in fair condition, while the other two declined medical transport.
The driver was arrested for felony evading. No information about the driver’s identity has been released. Residents in the area reportedly noted that this isn’t the first time a car has crashed into buildings on this street, but this South LA vehicle accident is one of the worst they have seen.
