Man Killed in Glendale Freeway Crash Involving Stalled Car

GLENDALE, CA (August 18, 2024) — A tragic accident occurred late Friday night on the 134 Freeway in Glendale, where a man was killed after being struck by a car. The crash, which happened around 11:40 p.m., involved a stalled car and a speeding vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident began when a silver Mitsubishi, stopped in the No. 2 lane for unknown reasons, was rear-ended by a black Mazda traveling at speeds over 65 mph. The right front passenger of the Mitsubishi, 24-year-old Jake Huard, had exited the vehicle and was standing on the freeway when the Mazda struck him. Huard was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 19-year-old Pasadena woman driving the Mitsubishi sustained major injuries, reportedly due to not wearing a seatbelt, while the 22-year-old El Monte man driving the Mazda suffered minor injuries. Authorities closed all eastbound lanes of the freeway until around 7 a.m. on Saturday for cleanup and investigation into the Glendale freeway crash.
