Pedestrian Killed in Crash on 10 Freeway in Santa Monica
SANTA MONICA, CA (July 30, 2024) — Early Tuesday morning, a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle on the 10 Freeway in Santa Monica, leading to a significant closure of the westbound lanes and affecting traffic on the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH).
The California Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred shortly after 2:30 a.m. on the westbound 10 Freeway near 4th Street. The pedestrian, whose identity has not been disclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Santa Monica pedestrian crash led to the issuance of a Sigalert, resulting in the closure of all westbound lanes of the freeway. Initially, authorities hoped to reopen the lanes by 4:30 a.m., but the closure extended until around 5:15 a.m.
The investigation also caused a temporary closure on PCH at the California incline. By 5:15 a.m., the Sigalert was lifted, and all lanes on both the 10 Freeway and PCH were reopened.
