Bicyclist Hospitalized After Hit-and-Run During Police Chase in El Segundo
EL SEGUNDO, CA (August 5, 2024) — A bicyclist was hospitalized in critical condition after being run over by a man fleeing from law enforcement in El Segundo on Sunday.
The collision occurred at Center Street and Mariposa Avenue around 3 p.m., according to the El Segundo Police Department. The incident happened while deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department gang and narcotics team were investigating in the area. The investigation began around 1:35 p.m.
During the operation, a deputy attempted to pull over a suspect for an unknown reason. Instead of stopping, the suspect rammed the deputy’s car and fled.
Deputies searching the area found the injured bicyclist and provided first aid. They discovered the suspect’s car nearby, but the driver had fled the scene. El Segundo police are assisting in the investigation into the El Segundo bicycle accident.
