Big Rig Fire Causes Traffic Mayhem on Cajon Pass
CAJON PASS, CA (July 26, 2024) — A big rig caught fire on the 15 Freeway in Cajon Pass early Friday, leading to a partial shutdown of the highway and causing a significant traffic jam.
The Cajon Pass big rig fire was reported just before 5 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway, halting traffic. The truck’s cab and trailer were fully engulfed in flames, but the driver escaped uninjured, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
By 6 a.m., CHP announced the closure of several lanes due to the incident. All lanes were reopened later, except for the furthest right lane on the southbound side. As of 7:30 a.m., traffic remained heavily affected, with drivers facing bumper-to-bumper congestion.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire, and the investigation is ongoing.
