LAPD Cruiser Crashes Into Civilian Car, Driver in a Coma

LOS ANGELES, CA (July 24, 2024) — Los Angeles police have shared video footage of a serious crash that left a civilian driver in a medically induced coma. The incident happened on June 23 in the Jefferson Park neighborhood as officers responded to an emergency call.
The video shows the police SUV driving with sirens and lights on Adams Boulevard. Most vehicles pulled over, but a Toyota Corolla attempted a left turn in front of the SUV, resulting in a collision. The impact caused the Corolla to spin and hit two parked cars, leaving the driver severely injured and unconscious.
The officers in the SUV exited after airbags deployed, with one officer appearing disoriented and the other relatively uninjured. They attempted to assist the Corolla driver, who was trapped in his seat. Paramedics arrived and transported the driver to a local hospital, where he was placed in a medically induced coma. He is expected to survive.
LAPD investigators are collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine the cause of the crash. The investigation may take several months. The LAPD car crash video is posted on YouTube [Warning: graphic content].
