SAN DIEGO, CA – A fatal collision occurred in Escondido on Tuesday afternoon when a North County Transit District Sprinter train struck a pickup truck that was on the tracks.
Authorities responded to the crash site near Mission Road and Enterprise Street shortly after 1 p.m. Aerial footage showed the truck, a gray pickup, crushed and displaced about 50 feet from the impact point. The train itself sustained damage, including a shattered windshield and debris from the vehicle embedded in its exterior.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is investigating why the truck was in the train’s path. Emergency responders confirmed that one person died at the scene, though details on other potential injuries have not yet been released.
The train vs truck crash disrupted rail service along the Sprinter route between Escondido and Oceanside. NCTD announced delays, with at least one train canceled and shuttle buses in place to transport passengers between the Escondido Transit Center and Nordahl.
