An auto collision in Yuba County claimed the life of 14-year-old Emirt Rivera Barrera of Olivehurst, according to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred near the Feather River Boulevard exit on northbound Highway 70 on Saturday.
Preliminary findings indicate that a Honda Pilot carrying Barrera and two other passengers overturned off the freeway and came to rest approximately 50 feet down a dirt embankment after another vehicle made an unsafe lane change.
Emergency responders arrived promptly and attempted life-saving measures on the unresponsive teenager, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining two passengers sustained injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Authorities have not yet determined whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the accident.
