Two men were killed early Sunday morning in Placer County after a BMW lost control on Eureka Road and struck a tree, causing the vehicle to split in half.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred at 3:14 a.m. The vehicle, which veered off the roadway before colliding with a tree, was severely damaged upon impact, and both the driver and passenger died at the scene.
Preliminary findings indicate that high speed was likely a contributing factor and that the driver may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the Granite Bay BMW crash.
