A tragic collision on National Trails Highway near Ponnay Street claimed the life of 4-year-old Jaelynn Maria Chavira on Saturday night.
The crash occurred at approximately 8:32 p.m. when a black 2020 Cadillac SUV, carrying three young passengers, overturned after veering off the roadway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The vehicle was reportedly driven by a 30-year-old woman from Newberry Springs who lost control and struck a dirt embankment.
While the driver managed to extract the 6-month-old and 5-year-old passengers — with minor injuries — the fatal injury to Jaelynn, who briefly regained a pulse after CPR, proved too severe, and she later died at Barstow Community Hospital.
Authorities have ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors, and the investigation remains ongoing. A GoFundMe page has been created to help with expenses.
