A 25-year-old man was killed Friday night in La Jolla after crashing his sports scooter and being struck by a passing vehicle that fled the scene.
The crash occurred around 9:06 p.m. in the 3200 block of Torrey Pines Road. Authorities said the man was riding a 2023 Yamaha XMAX northbound when he failed to navigate a curve, collided with a concrete barrier, and was ejected into the southbound lanes. An unidentified vehicle then ran over the rider and did not stop.
The victim died at the scene. His name has not been released pending family notification.
The San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division is investigating and seeking information on the hit-and-run driver in this La Jolla scooter crash.
