A 38-year-old woman from Taft died after a collision with a semi-truck on the Highway east of Tupman Road late Tuesday afternoon.
Officers responded to a report of a crash at around 4:45 p.m. Preliminary investigations indicate that the woman was driving a 2014 Ford Explorer west; at the same time, a man was behind the wheel of a 2024 Kenworth heading east.
For reasons unclear, the male driver drove left directly into the path of the semi-truck. The crash was unavoidable. The Ford kept driving before finally stopping on the dirt shoulder.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the other driver sustained minor injuries.
