A 21-year-old off-duty Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy — Daniel V. Chavira — died Monday afternoon following a three-vehicle collision in Santa Clarita.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:17 p.m. on San Francisquito Canyon Road, where emergency crews arrived to find the young deputy critically injured and trapped in the wreckage. He was airlifted by helicopter to a hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department expressed deep sorrow over the loss, offering condolences to the deputy’s family, friends, and colleagues. A law enforcement procession honoring the fallen deputy was held later in the evening.
