Homes and cars were left severely damaged after a small plane had crashed into the neighborhood of Tierrasanta near Sculpin Street and San Road in San Diego early Thursday morning.
The accident happened at about 3:45 a.m. A Cessna 550 plane from Teterboro, New Jersey reportedly crashed into multiple homes and cars, some of them catching fire. Flight path reports said it was bound for Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport.
Local authorities were quick to issue evacuation orders for Salmon, Sample, and Sculpin Streets. Officers directed citizens to the Miller Elementary School at 4343 Shields as an evacuation site.
At least three people were reportedly killed in the accident — including music talent agent David Shapiro and two employees. Shapiro is the co-founder of Sound Talent Group, arguably responsible for boy band Hanson’s “MMMbop” fame. Six people were said to have been on the plane, per the Federal Aviation Authority. No confirmation on the number of deceased yet, but authorities do not believe that there were any survivors.
The house that the plane hit was totally destroyed and about 10 more homes were damaged. The investigation continues.
