A driver sustained major injuries Saturday evening after crashing into a disabled commercial truck on the southbound shoulder of Highway 99 near Fresno Street.
The collision happened when a Ford Taurus, reportedly traveling at high speed and driving recklessly along the shoulder, rear-ended a big rig that had pulled over due to mechanical issues. The impact caused significant damage to the sedan.
According to California Highway Patrol officials, the driver of the Taurus was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was transported to a local hospital with major injuries. No injuries were reported for the driver of the commercial truck.
“This incident serves as a stark reminder that excessive speed and reckless behavior can have devastating consequences,” CHP said in a statement, extending sympathies to the injured motorist.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash and are urging drivers to obey posted traffic laws, drive responsibly, and wear seatbelts at all times.
