A bystander was killed Saturday in a seven-vehicle crash triggered by a police pursuit in South Sacramento.
The incident began around 10:15 a.m. when police responded to a “keep the peace” call from a woman who said she was a domestic violence victim attempting to retrieve belongings from a residence. By the time officers arrived, the suspect had already fled.
The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Daniel Cunningham, was later spotted nearby in a vehicle. When officers attempted a traffic stop, Cunningham allegedly sped off, initiating a chase along Florin Road.
During the pursuit, Cunningham crashed into several vehicles near the intersection of Florin Road and Greenhaven Drive, killing an uninvolved driver and injuring others. After the collision, Cunningham reportedly tried to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by officers.
He was treated at a hospital and later booked on charges including domestic violence, felony evading, and parole violation. The name of the deceased victim has not been released.
