MORENO VALLEY, CA – A fatal loose tire crash on 60 Freeway claimed the life of a Moreno Valley woman early Monday morning after a detached tire from a truck traveling in the opposite direction struck her vehicle head-on.
The incident happened shortly before 2:30 a.m., near Garey Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the 57-year-old victim was driving a Lexus ES 350 eastbound when the left rear tire of a 1995 GMC Sierra, driven by a man from Rosemead, detached, crossed the center divider, and entered her lane.
The impact crushed the front of the Lexus, causing the driver to lose control and crash into a guardrail. She died at the scene, while the pickup truck driver was uninjured.
Although the cause remains under investigation, CHP does not believe alcohol or drugs played a role. Authorities are asking any witnesses to contact the CHP Baldwin Park Office at (626) 517-8500.
