VENTURA COUNTY, CA – A tragedy struck a family in Ventura, California, when Adela Magaña, 53, lost her arm after a 40-foot palm tree fell on her at the Golf N’ Stuff mini golf course during her 13-year-old son’s birthday celebration.
The accident at California mini golf course happened on August 6, while Adela was sitting on a bench and her family played the third hole. Her husband Amando and son Junior rushed to help after hearing a loud cracking sound followed by a heavy thump. With the help of two bystanders, they lifted the tree off her and used a belt as a tourniquet to stop the bleeding while others called 911.
Adela was rushed to Ventura County Medical Center, where surgeons tried to save her arm. However, the severe damage to nerves and blood vessels forced doctors to amputate it below the shoulder the following day.
Currently, Adela is unable to speak but communicates through gestures. She faces multiple surgeries, intensive rehabilitation, and the challenge of adapting to a prosthetic arm.
The family, who have visited the park “countless times,” is deeply shaken—especially Damien, the youngest son, who witnessed the incident.
Golf N’ Stuff management has not commented on the incident, although the course reopened the following day.
