SAN JOSÉ, CA — A 43-year-old San José woman lost her life early Saturday morning while riding as a passenger in a Toyota Camry that was traveling the wrong way on Highway 17, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The vehicle entered the wrong lanes near Santa Cruz Avenue and caused a head-on collision with a Honda Del Sol, followed by a crash with a Honda Civic. The passenger died at the scene, while the driver of the Toyota, a 44-year-old San José man, suffered major injuries. Authorities believe he may have been driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The driver of the Honda Del Sol sustained severe injuries, and the driver of the Civic suffered moderate injuries; both were transported to the hospital.
This tragic head-on crash on Highway 17 highlights the importance of obeying traffic laws and never driving under the influence. One wrong decision behind the wheel can have deadly consequences, not only for drivers but also for innocent passengers and other motorists.
CHP is asking witnesses of the crash to contact the San José office at 408-961-0900.
