ALTADENA, CA — An accident on the Angeles Crest Highway left two people seriously injured when their car went off a steep ravine Sunday evening. According to the California Highway Patrol, authorities were alerted not by witnesses, but by the iPhone crash detection feature, which automatically called 911 at 6:18 p.m.
Firefighters and search-and-rescue teams, aided by good Samaritans, reached the victims and transported them to the hospital—one by helicopter and one by ambulance. Their conditions remain unknown.
The CHP issued a Sigalert near Barley Flats Road, closing all lanes temporarily before reopening around 7:30 p.m.
The iPhone crash detection feature proved crucial, enabling immediate rescue after the car plunged off Angeles Crest Highway, preventing the victims from being stranded in a remote area.
