BAKERSFIELD, CA – A driver identified as Jamie Steven Oceguera, 35, has been arrested and charged with vehicular homicide in Bakersfield following a fatal Bakersfield DUI crash on Union Avenue that claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl.
The crash happened on the night of August 10, when Oceguera, driving a Jeep Patriot, veered into the opposite lane on Panorama Drive and collided head-on with a Hyundai Elantra.
The victim, identified as Juana Jasmine Orozco Guerrero, a passenger in the Hyundai, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and two other passengers suffered moderate injuries, according to police.
Authorities allege that Oceguera was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash. After being treated for his own injuries at a hospital, he was booked into the county jail, where he remains without bail.
Oceguera is scheduled to appear in court this Friday.
