Madera, CA – A woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following a Madera head-on crash that killed a Fresno woman on Sunday.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), around 7:37 p.m., a 30-year-old woman from Oakhurst was driving north on SR-41, north of Rd. 406, in a Honda Accord when she crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a white Ford Escape. Both vehicles sustained severe damage and blocked the roadway.
The victim, an 87-year-old passenger in the Ford Escape, was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts by bystanders and medical personnel.
Both drivers were transported to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno with major injuries.
Witnesses reported that the Honda driver was driving recklessly, passing multiple vehicles over double yellow lines before the crash. She was arrested for felony DUI and additional charges. She remains in medical custody and will be booked at the Madera County Jail once cleared.
