PLACER COUNTY, CA – Traffic on Interstate 80 was at a standstill for several hours Tuesday after a truck fire in Placer County, forcing a complete closure of the westbound lanes.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received the report around 1:12 p.m. near Penryn Road. The cause of the fire and whether anyone was injured have not yet been confirmed.
During the closure, drivers were detoured off the highway at Newcastle Road, causing significant delays. After more than nine hours, CHP confirmed that all westbound lanes of I-80 reopened shortly after 10:30 p.m.
