TEMECULA, CA — A California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer and a local driver were injured Sunday night after a two-vehicle collision on Temecula Parkway near La Paz Road, according to officials.
The Temecula crash happened around 8:15 p.m., when a CHP officer driving eastbound in a marked Ford Explorer patrol unit collided with a Toyota Prius attempting a left turn.
Authorities said the 66-year-old Temecula man behind the wheel of the Prius was making a left onto La Paz Road at about 10 mph when the vehicles crashed. The patrol SUV was traveling about 55 mph at the time.
The Prius driver was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries and later released. His passenger, a 52-year-old man from Menifee, was not hurt. The CHP officer also sustained minor injuries and was treated at the hospital before being released.
Both vehicles sustained front-end damage. CHP’s Temecula Area office and the California Highway Patrol Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) are investigating the incident.
