LAGUNA BEACH, CA — A 46-year-old woman died Wednesday night after being involved in a separate crash linked to a prior alleged hit-and-run in Laguna Beach while driving a U-Haul truck in Rancho Mission Viejo.
The Laguna Beach Police Department (LBPD) reported the accident occurred around 7 p.m. on El Toro Road, near the 73 Toll Road overpass. Officers arriving at the scene found the woman seriously injured. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died. Her identity has not yet been released.
During the investigation, police learned that the woman had previously been involved in a hit-and-run. Another driver followed her until she parked the U-Haul, blocking a lane on El Toro Road.
After exiting the truck and walking on the roadway, she was struck by another vehicle while bystanders tried to move the U-Haul.
The driver who hit her remained on the scene and cooperated with authorities. Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact detectives at (949) 497-0701.
