YOLO COUNTY, Calif. — Estela Hernandez Vargas, 71, of Knights Landing, died Thursday in a Yolo County accident around 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of County Road 102 and County Road 17, according to the Yolo County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities said Vargas was driving a southbound Kia on County Road 102 when a Toyota traveling east on Road 17 allegedly ran a stop sign and collided with her vehicle. The California Highway Patrol confirmed that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash.
The collision left the two passengers in the Kia and the Toyota driver seriously injured; all were taken to a nearby hospital. Among the Kia passengers were Vargas’ family members: one is fighting for his life, while the other is stable after surgery, according to a verified GoFundMe created to help with medical and funeral expenses.
