BAKERSFIELD, CA — A dangerous double collision occurred Monday morning on Highway 14 in the Mojave area after a Kern County Fire Department (KCFD) engine was struck while firefighters were assisting at an earlier accident.
The Highway 14 crash happened around 7:45 a.m., when crews from the Mojave station responded to a two-vehicle collision near Silver Queen Road. Upon arriving, firefighters began treating an injured person on scene alongside Hall Ambulance personnel.
As first responders worked on the roadway, two passing vehicles crashed, creating a second collision. One of the vehicles lost control and slammed into the parked fire engine that was being used as a safety barrier.
Fortunately, no firefighters, paramedics, or CHP officers were injured. One person involved in the secondary crash was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
