SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA (October 29, 2024) – A tourist from Australia has been convicted and sentenced for a tragic wrong-way collision that resulted in the deaths of a California couple, according to San Mateo County authorities.
Luke Samnuel Nardini was reportedly driving eastbound when he encountered a road closure and inadvertently merged into the opposing westbound lane, continuing at speeds between 55 and 60 mph.
Accustomed to driving on the left side of the road, Nardini failed to revert to the right lane, leading to a head-on collision that killed 80-year-olds Linda and Jack Davis of La Honda, who were just 10 feet away when they came around a curve.
The court has sentenced 31-year-old Nardini to one year of supervised probation for the wrong-way crash in California. This includes 60 days in jail with credit for 10 days already served, and mandated community engagements. These include 10 hours of community service and speaking engagements at local high schools and the Coroner’s Office Save a Youth Program to discuss the impact of his actions.
Additionally, Nardini is required to make restitution to the victims’ family and will begin his sentence on November 1, under GPS monitoring until then.
