SALINAS, CA (November 5, 2024) – A head-on crash on Monte Road near Neponset Road claimed the life of a 32-year-old man from Lockwood after his pickup truck plunged into the Salinas River, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The crash, reported at approximately 2:07 p.m., involved a red pickup truck traveling north and a white international pickup truck heading south.
Preliminary findings from CHP indicate that the red pickup veered into the southbound lane, colliding with the white pickup. The impact caused the red pickup to continue northwest, strike a guardrail, and then fall off a bridge, landing upside down in the Salinas River.
The driver of the red pickup was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released his name pending further notification.
The head-on crash in Salinas has resulted in a road closure in both directions as CHP continues to investigate the cause of the collision.
