Anaheim Dog Hospitalized After Ingesting Meth at Local Park
ANAHEIM, CA (June 23, 2024) — An Anaheim family is distressed after their dog ingested methamphetamine during a walk at Stoddard Park, resulting in hospitalization.
Amy Robbins took her 12-year-old Chihuahua mix, Abbey, for a walk to the park on Thursday night. After returning home, Abbey began behaving oddly, standing statue-like and staring at the ceiling. Robbins recalled Abbey licking something at the park and discovered marijuana on the ground upon returning.
Abbey’s condition worsened, leading Robbins to rush her to an emergency vet clinic. Tests revealed methamphetamine in Abbey’s system, not marijuana. The vet warned that Abbey was at risk of cardiac arrest and required overnight care.
Robbins filed a report with Anaheim Police but felt their response was inadequate. She returned to the park to clean up drug debris herself, expressing concern about the park’s safety, especially for children.
Abbey is expected to recover, but the vet bills exceeded $2,000. Robbins hopes her story will serve as a warning to other pet owners. An Anaheim city spokesperson emphasized the city’s efforts to patrol and clean parks, attributing the incident to irresponsible drug users and highlighting California’s broader drug crisis.
