Anaheim Speed Limits Lowered Citywide to Boost Road Safety
SANTA ANA, CA (August 8, 2024) — Anaheim is reducing speed limits on over 500 streets this month as the city updates its speed-limit signs. This move follows a study that found most streets should have lower speed limits to enhance safety.
In 2023, Anaheim reported 21 traffic-related deaths, a 16 percent decrease from the previous year. The city aims to further reduce this number by lowering speed limits on major roads like Harbor Boulevard, State College Boulevard, Brookhurst Street, and others. Most speed limits are being reduced by 5 mph, with some areas seeing reductions of up to 15 mph.
Anaheim is updating 368 existing signs and installing 155 new ones. The city emphasized that the goal is to make streets safer, not to increase ticket revenue. Local Police will focus on educating drivers with warnings as the new Anaheim speed limits take effect.
