Bakersfield Pedestrian Death on July 4th Linked to Alleged DUI
KERN COUNTY, CA (July 10, 2024) — The Kern County coroner has identified Chad Anthony Jacques, 48, as the pedestrian killed by an alleged drunk driver in Bakersfield on Independence Day. The tragic incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. at the intersection of 24th and Oak streets.
According to police reports, Jacques was on the center divider when a vehicle driven by 33-year-old William Largent, traveling north on Oak Street, veered over the divider while attempting to turn onto 24th Street. The vehicle struck Jacques before colliding with four other vehicles on westbound 24th Street. Jacques was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries.
Largent was arrested and faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury. He was scheduled for a court appearance on Monday but failed to appear.
