Bakersfield Street Racing Leads to Sentences for Two Drivers [Bakersfield, CA]

BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 8, 2024) — Two individuals, Javontae Murphy and Brian Dickerson, were sentenced to 200 hours of community service and two years of felony probation after a fatal street racing incident in Bakersfield. 

The race, occurring early on March 17, 2021, led to the death of 29-year-old Antwon Washington when his Maserati Quattroporte crashed at speeds exceeding 100 mph. 

The Bakersfield racing accident, which saw Washington’s vehicle hit trees and roll, throwing him from the car, marked a tragic end to the high-speed pursuit along Panama Lane.

Murphy and Dickerson, having pled no contest to charges of vehicular manslaughter and engaging in a speed contest resulting in injuries, faced consequences for their actions. While Murphy briefly stopped at the scene before departing, Dickerson remained. 

Investigations, bolstered by surveillance footage and phone records, revealed the trio reached speeds up to 123 mph, highlighting the dangerous nature of street racing.
