Bicyclist Fatally Struck by Semi-Truck in Southwest Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 27, 2024) — A tragic accident occurred in southwest Bakersfield where a bicyclist was killed after being hit by a semi-truck on Friday evening. The collision took place at the intersection of Wible and Planz roads around 5:58 p.m., according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
Officials have stated that the semi-truck was heading north on Wible Road while the bicyclist was traveling west on Planz Road at the time of the accident. The area was closed for several hours as police conducted their investigation.
The truck driver, who had initially left the scene, returned shortly afterward. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash and have not determined whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
