Bicyclist Killed in Collision on East California Ave in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 12, 2024) — A bicyclist was killed late Friday night after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of East California Avenue and South Tulare Street in Bakersfield, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
The bike crash on East California Ave happened just after 10 p.m. when the male bicyclist, traveling eastbound, attempted to make a northbound turn onto South Tulare Street. He crossed directly into the path of a westbound Honda, resulting in a fatal collision.
Officers arrived to find the bicyclist dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Authorities confirmed that speed and impairment were not factors in the bike crash on East California Ave.
The investigation is ongoing. The identity of the bicyclist will be released by the coroner’s office at a later time.
