Big Rig Halted After 10-Mile Wrong-Way Journey on Freeway [Duarte, CA]

DUARTE, CA (March 31, 2024) — A semi-truck driver was arrested early Friday morning after navigating approximately 10 miles in the wrong direction along Southern California’s 210 Freeway. 

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) swiftly intervened, bringing the potentially catastrophic journey to a safe conclusion in Duarte.

Reported just before 1 a.m., the big rig was spotted speeding eastbound in the freeway’s westbound lanes, initiating near North Lake Avenue in Pasadena. 

According to CHP Sgt. Andrew McAllister, the vehicle maintained speeds of 65 to 70 mph during its perilous trek. Quick response from law enforcement prevented any accidents, with officers executing a strategic traffic break to halt the truck near Buena Vista Street.

The driver in the big rig wrong-way accident, whose identity remains undisclosed, was detained without incident, with authorities noting the big rig’s travel predominantly in the carpool lane. Miraculously, no accidents were reported due to this dangerous maneuver. This event underscores the critical importance of highway safety measures and the swift action of the CHP in protecting the public from potential harm.
