California Cities Dominate List of Worst Places for Drunk Driving in the US

CALIFORNIA (August 27, 2024) — California is facing a significant issue with impaired driving, according to a recent study by LendingTree.
The study, which analyzed the 50 largest cities in the United States, revealed that eight of the ten worst cities for drunk driving in the US are in California. While Raleigh, North Carolina, tops the list, California cities occupy spots two through eight and number ten, with Sacramento, Los Angeles, and San Jose leading the pack.
The high rates of DUIs in California cities raise concerns about the dangers of impaired driving in the state. Factors like the state’s warm climate may contribute to the higher rates, as suggested by LendingTree auto insurance expert Rob Bhatt. He noted that warmer weather might tempt more people to drink away from home, increasing the likelihood of driving under the influence.
The consequences of a DUI conviction in California are severe, including hefty legal fees, increased insurance rates, and potential vehicle repairs. Younger drivers, particularly Gen Z and Millennials, are said to be the most likely to be caught driving drunk. The full study can be seen here.
