Catastrophic Highway 70 Truck Crash Claims Two Lives [Oroville, CA]

OROVILLE, CA (June 6, 2024) — Two individuals tragically lost their lives on Wednesday afternoon after their vehicle was rear-ended by a pickup truck on Highway 70 in Oroville, California. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the incident occurred around noon near Montgomery Street.

The victims were in a Volkswagen that had stopped on the roadway when it was struck from behind by a Ram pickup truck. Both occupants of the Volkswagen were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries and was credited with wearing a seatbelt, which likely reduced the severity of their injuries.

Photos from the Oroville truck crash depict the severe damage to the Volkswagen, with the rear of the vehicle completely destroyed, indicating the force of the impact. The Ram pickup truck involved showed moderate damage to its front end and left headlight. CHP has not yet determined if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the crash.
