Cement Truck Catastrophe: Senior Driver Injured in Highway 101 Rollover
BUELLTON, CA (April 4, 2024) — A cement truck overturned in a traffic collision on Highway 101 near Buellton Wednesday morning, leaving a 77-year-old driver with major injuries, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports. The incident, which occurred at approximately 9:14 a.m., involved a solo vehicle—the cement mixer—which the Lompoc resident was operating at the time he lost control.
Santa Barbara County Fire Department personnel were quick to respond, rescuing the trapped driver from the wreckage. The injured man was airlifted to Marian Medical Center for treatment shortly after the accident.
The CHP and fire department are conducting ongoing investigations to determine the Buellton truck rollover crash’s cause, noting that there’s no immediate evidence to suggest drugs or alcohol were involved.
The crash initially took place on the Ave. of Flags offramp, leading to a spill of cement onto Jonata Park Road, causing additional traffic concerns. Though the roadway was reopened by 2:33 p.m., authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution in the area.
The Buellton CHP office is calling for witnesses or those with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
