Coast Guard Helicopter Rescues Man from Oil Tanker
SAN DIEGO, CA (April 7, 2024) — A critical medical emergency prompted a daring Coast Guard operation on Wednesday, as a 29-year-old man was airlifted from a petroleum oil tanker situated 160 miles from the San Diego coastline.
The U.S. Coast Guard was alerted by the Joint Harbor Operations Center about the man’s urgent need for advanced medical treatment.
Launching from Sector San Diego, an Air Station Jayhawk Helicopter crew, accompanied by a Specialized Trauma Assistance Team medic, executed the rescue operation. The patient was safely transported back to land and handed over to Emergency Medical Services by 4:30 p.m., where he was reported to be in stable condition.
