Community Mourns Grandmother Killed in Bell Gardens Hit-and-Run
BELL GARDENS, CA (April 8, 2024) — Bell Gardens is in mourning after a hit-and-run driver fatally struck a beloved local grandmother, Janet Young, on the evening of April 4.
The Bell Gardens hit-and-run occurred just before 8 p.m. in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Gage Avenue and Chalet Drive. Authorities report that a dark-colored sedan, last seen heading east on Gage Avenue, is responsible for the tragedy.
Responders from the Los Angeles County Fire Department found Young unresponsive at the scene; she was later pronounced deceased. Surveillance footage from a nearby store captured the grievous event, which has left her family, including six children and six grandchildren, heartbroken. A vigil was held Sunday, and a GoFundMe page has been set up to support her children with funeral expenses.
