Deadly Multi-Vehicle Crash on 5 Freeway On-Ramp in Commerce
COMMERCE, CA (April 7, 2024) — Two individuals lost their lives in a multi-vehicle collision early Saturday morning in Commerce, California. The crash occurred on the Slauson Avenue on-ramp leading to the 5 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Authorities responded to the scene shortly after 7 a.m., leading to the closure of the freeway and on-ramp.
A SigAlert was issued, and traffic was significantly impacted, with lanes #1, #2, and #3 reopening by 10:30 a.m. However, the fourth lane and the Slauson Avenue on-ramp are expected to remain closed as the investigation continues.
Footage from the multi-vehicle crash in Commerce shared on the Citizen App captured the early moments of congestion as emergency teams commenced their investigative efforts. The names of the deceased have not yet been disclosed, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
