Driver Gets Ejected from Car in Big Sur, Falls Over Cliff
BIG SUR, CA (March 1, 2024) — A miraculous rescue unfolded in Monterey County as a driver survived a harrowing ordeal, being ejected through his car’s sunroof and tumbling down a Big Sur cliff.
The incident occurred late Sunday night when the driver, an employee at the upscale Post Ranch Inn, swerved to avoid deer, leading to his vehicle veering off the road and plummeting 400 feet towards the beach below.
He was stranded for nearly two days before being spotted by California Highway Patrol (CHP) Coastal Division pilots conducting a search along the Pacific coastline.
Rescue teams from Big Sur fire department were quickly dispatched, descending the cliff with ropes to reach the man. After assessing his condition, CHP helicopter crews executed a precision hoist operation, safely airlifting him to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas for treatment.
Remarkably, despite the severe Big Sur car accident and his time exposed to the elements, he sustained only moderate injuries. The CHP highlighted the driver’s incredible fortune and resilience in a social media update following the rescue.
